Inpatient Unit

We provide 24-hour specialist care in the hospice for comfort, symptom support and end-of-life care.

Care in Your Home

We visit you at home to provide specialist care, advice and support for you and your family

Day Therapy

We offer outpatient appointments, therapies and support to help you live as well as possible.

Adult Bereavement Support

We support adults after a death through listening, counselling and practical guidance, at your own pace.

Healing Hearts

We support children and young people with grief through age-appropriate bereavement counselling.

We help with practical and emotional support, and connect you to the right hospice team and services.

How to Access Our Palliative Care Services

You have a serious or life-limiting illness and want support.
You can be referred to us if you are living with cancer, COPD, heart failure, dementia, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, or another life-limiting condition.
To access our Inpatient Unit, Community Home Care, or Day Therapy, ask your GP, hospital consultant, or district nurse to refer you. You can speak to them at your next appointment or call their surgery and ask for a referral to Foyle Hospice.
If you need bereavement support after the death of someone close to you, you can refer yourself — you do not need a GP or doctor to do this. Simply call us or email using the details below.

Your loved one has a serious illness and you need help.
You can ask your loved one’s GP, consultant, or district nurse to refer them to Foyle Hospice on their behalf. You do not need to wait for them to ask themselves — you can start the conversation.

We also support you, not just the patient. Our services include practical and emotional support for families, and bereavement counselling for adults and children after a death — even if your loved one was never a patient of Foyle Hospice.

Making a referral to Foyle Hospice.
Foyle Hospice accepts referrals from GPs, hospital consultants, district nurses, and the wider healthcare team. Our consultant-led specialist palliative care team works closely with community and hospital colleagues to support symptom management, anticipatory care planning, and timely discharge.

We provide 24-hour telephone advice for healthcare professionals managing patients with complex palliative needs.

Yes. All of Foyle Hospice’s services are completely free of charge to patients and families. Foyle Hospice is a charity and relies on the generosity of donors and community fundraisers to provide this care at no cost to you.

Foyle Hospice supports people living with life-limiting illnesses including cancer, COPD and other lung diseases, heart failure, dementia, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and other progressive conditions. We serve people across Derry~Londonderry and surrounding areas in Counties Derry, Tyrone and Fermanagh.

Referrals for inpatient care and home care must come via a GP, hospital consultant or other healthcare professional. However, you can self-refer for adult and children’s bereavement support. If you’re not sure which applies to you, call us and we’ll guide you.

Yes. A family member or carer can speak to their loved one’s GP, hospital consultant or district nurse and ask them to make a referral to Foyle Hospice on their behalf. You do not need to wait for the patient to ask themselves.

No. Hospice care is not only for the final days of life. Foyle Hospice supports people at many stages of a serious or life-limiting illness — helping with symptom management, therapies, emotional support and quality of life. Many people come to Day Therapy or receive home visits while continuing to live at home.

Foyle Hospice’s Inpatient Unit is a purpose-built facility set in landscaped gardens on the banks of the River Foyle. It can accommodate 9 patients in single and shared rooms, all with en-suite facilities, and includes multiple sitting areas, a sunroom, an interdenominational prayer room, and self-contained family apartments. It provides 24-hour specialist palliative care for symptom management, comfort, and end-of-life care.

Yes. Our community specialist nursing team visits patients at home to provide specialist palliative care, advice and support for both the patient and their family.

Yes. Foyle Hospice operates a bus service with trained staff and volunteers for patients who have transport difficulties or require assistance, and also has a volunteer driver team providing transport to and from the hospice.

Yes. Through our Healing Hearts programme, Foyle Hospice provides bereavement support to children and young people who are struggling with grief. This service uses age-appropriate counselling and support.

No. Foyle Hospice provides bereavement support to adults in the North West regardless of whether their loved one was a patient of Foyle Hospice.

Yes. Foyle Hospice provides chaplaincy support to patients, families and friends, with regular interdenominational services and support for those of any faith or none.
