Our Board of Trustees

Foyle Hospice is a local charity, and our Board of Trustees is responsible for how it is governed. Every trustee is a volunteer. They give their time and experience, unpaid, to keep the hospice well run, financially sound and focused on what matters most: compassionate palliative care, support and education for people across the Western Trust area.

About our trustees

Damian McCauley

Secretary

Damian McCauley, a County Derry local, joined our Board of Trustees in 2024 bringing with him over 30 years of executive leadership experience as an Operations Director for a global engineering company. Following his retirement in December 2023, Damian wanted to give back to an organisation he has long admired. Inspired by countless stories from neighbours and friends about the exceptional care their families received at Foyle Hospice, he translated his passion as a dedicated fundraiser into a role supporting the hospice's leadership. Having previously laced up his running shoes to support the hospice through two Great North Run half marathons and other local fundraisers, Damian is grateful for the opportunity to now offer his time and energy to help guide and support the charity's vital work.

Currently a Volunteer and a Trustee of Foyle Hospice. I am a dedicated to supporting the Hospice which provides services to patients and families in our community free of charge. Subsequently I became Head of Quality and Safety and Trust Governance Lead in the Western Trust with responsibility for developing Governance and Risk Management arrangements and being the custodian of the Trust Corporate Risk Register; a role I held until my retirement in 2021. This experience has helped me in my role on the Board of the Hospice and as a member of the the Governance and Risk Committee.

How the Board and our senior team work together

The Board sets the hospice’s direction and holds the senior team to account. Our Chief Executive, Donall Henderson, reports to the Board and leads the hospice day to day with the Senior Management Team.

Around 65% of the money we need each year comes from local support. Our trustees make sure that generosity is used wisely, for the patients and families who rely on us.
