Day Hospice

The Day Hospice Team is a group of specially trained palliative care nurses, who provide professional palliative and end of life care, expertise and support to patients and families who attend The Day Hospice. The Day Hospice team is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers.

Our aims

The strategic objectives which have been developed by Foyle Hospice to ensure that we consistently meet our founding aim in a professional proficient and value added manner are:-

  • To support those affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses
  • To provide support and education whilst acting as a resource

What can I expect from a day in the Day Hospice?

The Day Hospice provides an informal environment for patients who live at home but who can benefit from the support of our experienced palliative care nursing team in the hospice.

This is a relaxed and safe environment for up to 12 patients a day, open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the year, excluding bank holidays. In most instances, a patient will visit the Day Hospice one day a week.

Hear what Shirley, A Day Hospice patient, had to say about her experience.

"After Sunday, it is the highlight of my week. My programme hinges around it. I plan carefully so as to be free and in the best form I can be to reap all the benefits.... I cannot recommend this service highly enough. There is nothing to fear and so much to gain."
