Charity Football Match in mem of Ian Crown

In memory of Ian Crown - A special tribute from his friends

I was introduced to Ian over 30years ago by my brother in law John McDowell who was a good friend of Ian’s. Ronnie was also John & Ian’s friend and we would all have gone out socially as couples and enjoyed many nights at the Gransha Social Club.
Ian and I showed a great interest in football and we played together in the over 40’s league for Gransha F.C. Ian also played for Institute F.C, as does his son Graham.
Ian was one of life’s true gentlemen, devoted to his wife Janine and his young family and was a true friend to all who knew him. It was with great shock and sadness that we learned of his sudden death almost 2 years ago.
Ronnie and I felt we wanted to do something in memory of Ian and after discussing it with his wife, Janine we decided to hold a quiz and a charity football match at Institute F.C, with a cup being presented to the club in memory of Ian. Janine felt that it would have been Ian’s wish that any money raised should go to Foyle Hospice and we are overwhelmed with the support and generosity of Ian’s family, friends, colleagues and the general public. We are very pleased to be handing over a cheque for £5000 to the Foyle Hospice.
