Message from Dr. Keith Munro, Chairman
Foyle Hospice is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date medical and nursing care to the highest level possible. It provides palliative and end-of-life care to patients and their families while recognising the need to treat each person with dignity, respect and compassion irrespective of culture, race or creed. Services include homecare, inpatient care, daycare, bereavement support and a 24 hour telephone advice service. While most patients cared for by hospice services are suffering from cancer, an increasing number of patients with non-malignant conditions are being helped.
Palliative care medicine utilises a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, relying on input from physicians, nurses, chaplains, social workers, psychologists, and other allied health professionals in formulating a plan of care to relieve suffering in all areas of a patient's life. This multidisciplinary approach allows the palliative care team to address physical, emotional, spiritual, and social concerns that arise with advanced illness.
End of life care is an important part of palliative care, and refers to the care of a person during the last part of their life, from the point at which it has become clear that the person is in a progressive state of decline.
“You matter to the last moment of your life, and we will do all we can to help you not only to die peacefully, but also to live until you die.”
Dame Cicely Saunders – Founder of St, Christopher’s Hospice in London
Foyle Hospice is a registered charity and our developing services are free. Currently our costs annually exceed £2,000,000. Of this government funding is less than 25%. We rely on the immense generosity of the people of the North West to support our efforts. Our very active fundraising department strives to raise about half this amount through its many creative planned events.
We need your support so that we may continue to offer our many integrated services to those in need. This we pledge to do even in the face of the current financial crisis affecting all our lives.

Dr Keith Munro
CHAIRMAN OF THE TRUSTEES
